WHAT IS THE BLUE MERMAID?
When we sent the Mermaid in a Manhole/He Never
Dies Double Feature DVD to be manufactured, we ran into a problem. We
didn't know about this until we received all of the DVD's from the
manufacturer. They sent us a case of 180 DVD's without the packaging. We were
a little confused about this so we called the manufacturer and asked them why
the print run wasn't exact. They said the printer was short by 180 DVD covers.
Well this wasn't good. I called the printer and
asked what happened. They told us that when a large amount of DVD covers are
printed usually there is an overage or an underage of prints. Since we didn't
specify if they should go over the print run or under they just stopped it
short creating a short by 180 covers which meant 180 DVD's shy of the original
print run.
We managed to talk the printer into running
another 180 covers for the Mermaid in a Manhole/He Never Dies DVD for us. The
printer complained a bit but managed to run us off 180 which he quickly
shipped to us here at Unearthed Films.
When we received them, we didn't think anything
of it and figured we would build the DVD's later as we needed them. When we
took a closer look. We noticed that the Mermaid and the Mermaid Logo was blue
instead of the original green. The tint to the whole cover was a little
different but the main difference was the color green was replaced with the
color blue.
We called the printer to ask why the color
change and they said it happened due to the small print run. Since they didn't
have one of the originals to make sure the color was right. They went with it.
So there you go. I don't know if they will
become collectable in the future but there is a good chance. With only 180 of
them available that's a pretty low. Variant covers in the comic book industry
are worth more then the regular covers since collectors would rather have the
lower print run.
Speaking of variant covers were working on the
Flower of Flesh and Blood/Making of Guinea Pig Double Feature. The Flower DVD
will have 2 maybe. Why do you ask. Well if you have noticed
the Guinea Pig DVD's are available at almost every retail Internet website.
Including Best Buy, Barnes and Nobles, Movies Unlimited, DVD Empire etc, etc.
We are horror fans and we want to make the DVD cover to the Flower of Flesh
and Blood truly disgusting. If we did release the cover the way we wanted to.
It wouldn't be carried by the big retail chains. So were going to make 2
covers. One will be the painted cover available through all major retail
Internet stores and the other will be available through the independent online
retailers. Both will be kick ass but one will be painted like the 1st two and
the other one. Well, you can see it below and judge for your self. We are
waiting on the artwork for the retail version. When we have it we will post it
here for you to see. Don't worry the artwork version will kick ass also.
